Meet The Women Golf Trailblazer
If you're into golf, you'll enjoy this Pittsburgh Magazine article, "On Par with Arnie, She is America's 'Queen of Golf' - The world of golf may have been slow to embrace women, but Sewickley amateur Carol Semple Thompson always has found her way into the club."
Hall of Fame golfer Carol Semple Thompson often referred to as the “Queen of Golf” is a women’s college alumna from Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia. From the class of 1970 she became one of the all-time greats! Her amazing career with many career highlights spanned more than 40 years."
Article highlights:
"Thus launched the career of one of the greatest American women golfers in the annals of the game. Never mind that the Sewickley native remained an amateur throughout her life, or that she never achieved the name recognition or prize money of such pros as Annika Sörenstam and Nancy Lopez. Her ruthless competitive drive and 43-year string of amateur, national and international wins place her among the greats.
For starters, Semple Thompson and Arnold Palmer are the only two golfers from western Pennsylvania in the World Golf Hall of Fame. She also is one of five players in history to win three different U.S. Golf Association titles — an achievement she shares with Jack Nicklaus, JoAnne Gunderson Carner, Tiger Woods and Palmer. And she has played in more USGA championships than any person — woman or man — in history."

An amazing and impressive trailblazer and also a graduate of a women's college . . . coincidence? I think not!

Women's College Tradition: Hoop Rolling
One of a kind tradition at this women's college: Wellesley College. I LOVE this tradition. Looks like so much FUN!!
Traditional Schedule of Events (From Wellesley's Website)
Little Sisters (underclasswomen) camp out the night before the event to hold a spot for their Big Sisters (upperclasswomen) on Tupelo Lane.
Hoops are passed down to seniors or provided by Cafe Hoop—and then are decorated.
Come morning, the seniors arrive—dressed for success in their Commencement gowns and class colors.
At a signal, the seniors race down the lane, pushing their hoops with a wooden stick.
Back in the day, it was proclaimed that whoever won the Hoop Roll would be the first to get married. In the status-seeking 1980s, she was the first to be CEO. Now we just say that the winner will be the first to achieve happiness and success, whatever that means to her.
The winner is carried away by her Wellesley Sisters...
...and has the honor of being thrown into Lake Waban.

Women's College Quote
"What employers consider the most valuable preparation for long-term success in today’s economy is exactly the kind of broad, big-picture, and hands-on liberal learning that a Mount Holyoke education now provides.”— Mount Holyoke College 2015 Commencement keynote speaker Carol Geary Schneider ’67

This Women’s College 2015 Graduate Finds Passion in Poetry
From the article, Everyday People: Mount Holyoke graduate Tayllor Johnson finds passion in poetry:
When applying to college, Johnson said she was initially against attending a women's college. She became convinced that it would provide her an empowering environment to focus on her growth after speaking with a school representative.
"The school has taught me to live for my passions only and that the wants of others are second, that I need to put myself first."

Student fashion shows are so much fun! Check out this very cute outfit!
The spring/summer collection “ZING” by Xee Vang brings an energetic color palette and prints to women’s sportswear. It consists of structural and fluid silhouettes that can be worn for a casual and fun occasion, to something formal for an event. ZING is inspired by high street fashions that mix and match a variety of bold colors and prints to just wearing minimal.

New Tradition at This Women's College
This morning I saw a Facebook post from Mary Baldwin College (soon to be Mary Baldwin University) and wanted to share. What a GREAT new tradition and what a WONDERFUL class gift!!
President Pamela Fox begins a new tradition tomorrow evening: kicking off Commencement Weekend with a jaunty ringing of the new bell in front of the Administration Building — a gift from the Class of 2015. After the Commencement ceremony on Sunday, graduates will be invited to ring the bell as a celebration of their achievement.

Women’s College Alumna Thanks Her Alma Mater
Just had to share this post I saw on Facebook.
Written by Shauna Schmitt, Proud Graduate of Cottey College
I know that Alumna don't usually do this but I thought that I needed to post this and thank my Cottey professors, mentors, sisters, P.E.O.s and many more. I truly never thought that I would have been successful after Cottey because I thought that my college experience was going to be Cottey and I was going to move on from Cottey and just study and get straight A's. But once I realized that I needed to use my Cottey power at my new university I never looked back. I started to think of Cottey as a trampoline that bounced me to here and I needed to make the most of my new experience and today I was honored the most prestigious award a University of Dubuque student could receive.
University Leadership Award - "This is the highest leadership honor awarded by the University, given annually to one college student. It is given to the student who has shown commitment beyond personal gain, served fellow students, encouraged and promoted positive actions in others, and demonstrated in his or her personal life the true spirit of the Mission of the University of Dubuque."
I wouldn't be the leader I am today without being able to call myself a Cottey girl. Thank you Cottey you're truly changing lives!
